Gymnasium Physiotherapy

The name of Gymnasium Füsioteraapia (physiotherapy) is derived from the greek word “gymnásion, which in Ancient Greece was used for training grounds and facilities of athletes competing in public games. In addition to being a place of physical training,  gymnásions also served a different purpose – that of education. In Ancient Greece, gymnásions held lectures about medicine, philosophy, literature and various other subjects.

In the spirit of the gymnásions of Ancient Greece, Gymnasium Füsioteraapia is also not only an establishment devoted to the development and preservation of health, physical capabilities and the body as a whole – it is also an establishment that considers education as a core part of its’ service. The core belief and foundation of all services provided at Gymnasium Füsioteraapia is that in order to truly recover from injury or any form of chronic illness is to establish and understand the following:

  • which structure in the body is not as it should be;
  • what has caused this deviation from the norm;
  • what mechanisms and adaptations can be used to reverse and improve these issues.

Therefore, one of the most important parts of the Gymnasium physiotherapy process is to educate the client about the health-related issue at hand in a manner completely comprehensible and relatable to the client, regardless of his/her background, age and earlier knowledge on the subject.

Naturally, an equally important aspect of the physiotherapy process is direct work with the client’s health-related problem or illness. At Gymnasium Füsioteraapia that means a thorough physiotherapeutic assessment of the client, identifying the root cause(s) and formulating an appropriate, safe and effective rehabilitation or training plan to relieve the issues at hand. I thoroughly believe, that the best exercise is the one that the client will actually do and, likewise, the best rehabilitation/training plan is that, which the client will actually be able to follow in a real-life setting. That is why one of the core principles of rehabilitation/training plan programming at Gymnasium Füsioteraapia is individuality – meaning that each and every physiotherapy appointment or personal training session, rehabilitation or training plan, exercise mode and selection are tailored to the exact needs, preferences, restrictions, levels and pace of life of each individual client.I consider this to be very important, especially when taking into consideration the rapid pace of life of the modern society, so as not to spend the client’s valuable energy and time on unnecessary, suboptimal or very time-consuming exercises which have a relatively small carry-over to the client’s goals. That is why I always strive to make sure my rehabilitation or training plans incorporate into the client’s lifestyle as well as possible.

Before an appointment, we recommend that you clarify for yourself your primary issue(s), symptoms and medical history (in the case of personal training, your goals, preferences and restrictions).

In addition to that, we recommend you bring along appropriate clothing (preferably neither excessively loose nor tight, since we need to assess your posture, joints’ ranges of motion, etc. Athletic wear is usually the best choice).

In the case of physiotherapy, it is very helpful if you can either forward us via email your medical history and results of previous scans, analyses, etc or bring them along with you for the initial assessment.
